Divorcing From Faith

Jillie tossed out a new word game as I was putting her to bed last night. Usually it's a game of "how much do I love you?" where we try to see who can come up with the biggest number. I know, infinity can't be multiplied times infinity, but it's always fun to try. I can't wait until she understands exponents, and I can say "infinity to the infinity power" without her giving me the "my daddy's lost his marbles" face.

So anyway, last night, she said she wanted to play the "I believe" game. She started: "I believe in you, daddy." I reciprocated, and that led to including Lizz and our animals, and then she added "I believe in angels."

I paused just a moment before saying "I believe in heaven."

Merry Non-Specific Holiday! (xposted at www.reverb1.com)

My daughter had her very first elementary school Christmas - er, sorry, HOLIDAY - concert last night. 30 first graders on small risers, singing - - and sometimes shouting - - holiday lyrics. Some songs were recognizable - "Sleigh Ride", "Jingle Bells", "Deck the Halls" for examples. A few other songs - one called "now we're cooking" that sounded a lot like a James Brown song (and even came with a few dance moves), and a couple others which were kind of generic Holiday numbers...

But the main thing is.... they didn't sing anything about "Christmas" - - I don't even think they MENTIONED it.

That's kind of weird.
